§ 2-95. Vacancy in office.

Whenever any vacancy shall occur in the office of the mayor, on account of death, resignation, removal of his residence from the city or for any other cause, and there remains an unexpired term of at least one year, the vacancy shall be filled by the council electing one of its members acting mayor, who shall possess all the rights and powers of the mayor until a mayor is elected at the next regular election and has qualified.
